Unfortunately, the service went down hill from there. First, I called the Tuesday before guests were arriving to confirm early check in. Although the clerk was exceptionally rude, she assured me that our guests (especially the groomsmen and the groom) would be able to access their rooms early in order to prepare for the wedding. Upon arrival, however, that was not the case. First, the parents of the groom (and their friends from out of town) were denied early check in because "something came up and the rooms were not ready." Then, the day of the wedding, the groom and his groomsmen went to prepare several hours after our guaranteed check in time, and were also told they could not yet have a room because "something came up." My husband explained that the room was the only place that they would be able to dress for the wedding, so the clerk offered him an available room, not the one that was reserved. After dressing my husband was assured that our room, which we were told would be a honeymoon suite, would be available upon our return that evening.
I have mixed feelings on this one. I found it reasonably priced for a Marriott resort so that was a plus. The property does really show it's age however so in a sense you get what you pay for. I'm platinum with Marriott so I received an upgrade to a beachfront, ocean view room. The view was great but the room was almost 1/2 mile away from the check in and main lobby area!! Walking was 15 to 20 minutes and not possible due to rain, so I had to call for a shuttle to come pick me up every time I wanted to go between buildings...had I known this i would have probably asked to just keep my pre reserved room, since the purpose of my visit was unfortunately not to go to the beach..
At first my husband and I were truly excited about booking at the Hutchinson. Candice was exceptionally accommodating, responsive, and helpful in making the initial arrangements. She answered all of our questions and processed our requests quickly - for that we are extremely thankful, especially considering it was a destination wedding and we were unfamiliar with the area.
Called to make a reservation and the lady from the actual resort, not the 800 line was extremely rude. It was the only place left in the area with availability or I would have stayed some where else just based on her attitude. It was three of us guys going fishing and we decided to get a room. She told us we had a room with 2 beds and they could bring a roll out for us. Upon arrival we checked in and were told security would show us to the sandpiper building and he was waiting out front. It took security over 30 minutes to show up to escort us to our room. Once we got to our room we found out it was ONE BED after specifically clarifying with her. Had to drive back to the main lobby , not close at all and the guy at the desk said they had no double bed rooms available and he didn't know why she would tell me that. I usually stay at Marriott hotels and never have problems but this experience was terrible. Please have your people give accurate information on the phone especially when they're told we would be arriving at 1 am. Find another hotel in the area if you can
Overall I must say I was extremely dissatisfied with the service we received, with the exception of Candice's planning. Although we understand that things come up, we would have hoped that a room block, set up MONTHS in advance, would have been accommodated - especially for the bride, groom, and parents. Unfortunately I can not recommend your resort in good conscious.
Stayed here in early October, was able to check in very early, the room was in the main part of the hotel. Staff is so very friendly, excellent/free breakfast with lots of options, great air conditioner, and comfortable bed and pillows. Love the ceiling fan, patio and patio door and pool (w/events). Was able to check out late. Stayed 4 nights, very, very comfortable. (Could improve: the elevator-smelled and hot, the townhouses/condo by beach-very old and tired. Wish the tiki bar by the pool stayed open later.)
My husband and I arrived several hours after our wedding, and were told that the room we reserved was still not available due to unfortunate circumstances. I explained to the clerk our situation and though I understood that things come up, we had made reservations SEVERAL months in advance, and were hoping something could be accommodated. The clerk then spoke with her manager who provided us with a different room, and we were grateful. However, come to find out, the room was no different then what my husband had that morning - with the exception of a different "poolside view." At that point it was extremely late in the evening and we did not want to spend our wedding night trying to adjust accommodations, so we just left well enough alone.
The front desk at this hotel is extremely accommodating. We were originally assigned to a room in the Sandpiper by the ocean but wanted to be moved to the main building by the restaurants and pool bar and even though this was an extremely booked weekend, they did not hesitate to accommodate our requests. Upon arrival the staff was also very aware and helpful with our bags and guiding us to our room. The food at the hotel grille restaurant was really good too and great service. Overall a great stay so far.
